Thrifty Tip Tuesday: Don’t Make Your Dishwasher Dry Your Dishes

I’m very excited to be taking part in Thrifty Tip Tuesday, hosted by I am a Money Magnet.

My Thrifty Tuesday Tip
Don’t use the heated drying setting on your dishwasher. It takes a fair amount of electricity, and you don’t need it! I have two general strategies for drying my dishes after they’ve been through the dishwasher. Sometimes I’ll dry them with a dish towel while I’m taking them out. Other times, or should I say most of the time, when I’m lazy, I leave the door to the dishwasher open for a while, and voilĂ , the dishes magically get dry all on their own.
Tell the truth… Do you use heated drying setting on your dishwasher?

Ironically, I used to use the heat setting, but it still didn't dry any of the water in the lip thing, which was my main goal (yes, I'm that lazy). So now, I leave the door open too, and and anything that isn't dry when I want to put away, I throw in the sink rack and let it take it's time….

To be honest, I'm not sure what we do! My husband is in charge of the dishes :) I'll have to ask him if he uses that heated drying! The dishes usually take a few days to unload once they're clean, so they would have plenty of time air dry on their own! Thanks for linking to Thrifty Tip Tuesday!

We don't even own a dishwasher. So sad, I know. =) But when we did have a dishwasher we never used the drying feature. Since I ran it after dinner I would open it prior to going to bed and towel dry anything needing it once morning arrived.

I do try to stop it, but don't always catch as we tend to put it on at night… My goofy one doesn't seem to have an option to keep it off, despite what the buttons suggest!

My husband is convinced it adds some sort of antibacterial property to the washing so yes, we do. Plus, I LOVE opening it up when it's done and getting a nice little warm-up from the steam. At least..in the winter!

I use it because I feel that it disinfects the dishes with the heat and I feel better using them. I get grossed out just letting them air dry. I feel guilty about using it but I feel better when my son is using a glass or plate that its clean.
