It’s events like the earthquake in Haiti that really help me put things in my life in perspective. Right now, I’m sitting on my couch, in my warm house, typing away on my laptop, while millions of people in Haiti are are without the most basic necessities. They’ve lost their homes, their loved ones, and all sense of security. It just breaks my heart to think of how terrifying it must be for all of them. I know that not everyone has money to send. But there are other things you can do! Crystal from Money Saving Mom has organized the Help for Haiti campaign. All the blogs participating in Help for Haiti will be donating for every person who leaves a link or a comment on their posts. Hubby and I will be donating $10 for every link and $.50 for every comment left on this post through Jan 21st to World Vision’s earthquake relief fund, up to $550. Want to help?
Leave a comment on this post! And spread the word. Tell your friends, family, and coworkers to leave a comment, too.
On a tight budget?! I understand.
Here are a few ideas from Another Mom’s View (ok, and a couple of my own) on simple things you can do to squirrel away money for a donation: cut a non-essential item off your grocery list, sell something on ebay or craigslist that’s been just cluttering up your home, go to the library instead of renting a video or going to the theater, skip your morning coffee at the local coffee shop and brew it at home, or something else creative that you can think of!
Visit Money Saving Mom’s Help for Haiti page and leave a comment and/or link on other participating blogs.
Do you have a blog? Spread the word about Help for Haiti or join in yourself. Write a post talking about what you’ve done to help and encourage others to help, too!
One last note, if you’re going to donate, please be sure you’re giving to a legitimate charity. The BBB has a site where you can check the legitimacy of a charity before donating. Unfortunately, there are some people who are trying to profit from this terrible tragedy. There have been reports of charity scams recently. Here are a few links to legitimate sites accepting donations:
The American Red Cross
Compassion International
Doctors Without Borders
Mercy Corps
Samaritan’s Purse
UNICEF
World Vision
I want to thank Crystal from Money Saving Mom for organizing this effort. Remember, every little bit helps!

Hi! I don't have a blog, but wanted to leave a comment
That is awesome that there is a group of bloggers raising funds to help Haiti! You're right, we are in such a priviledge position and we often don't even see it that way!
God bless!
Shawna, you have such a kind heart! Glad you can join the blog efforts to help
This is terrific and hopefully will inspire others to help as well!
I gave to Compassion International and the Red Cross. Thanks for doing this!
What a fantastic idea.
I've reposted on my FB page; hopefully, that will help out as well!
We donated through Crisis Response International (CRI). They sent a team down yesterday to assist with search and rescue. Thanks for doing this!
I'm praying for Haiti and donating via text message and to Feed My Starving Children. Thank you!
We donated to the American Red Cross this morning. Thanks for using your blog to help convince people to donate.
We donated to the US fund for UNICEF and also to a local (Kentucky)-based charity called Ten Kids whose goal is to provide a safe home, education, etc. to Ten Kids http://www.tenkids.org/. I like the idea of giving to an organization meeting general needs of the people of Haiti and to one meeting the needs of specific children. We are so blessed–I can't imagine the losses of the Haitian people.
Amazing. Here's hoping our combined efforts will mean a lot.
We donated through Compassion! I pray that Haiti will have a mighty impact on the world and God's grace will shine through!
My heart is breaking for the Haitian people. I pray that the Lord will bless and keep them safe. I have contributed to the American Red Cross and encourage others to do the same.
I'm leaving a comment on my own post! (Is that weird?) I deleted a spam comment, but I still want to include it in my count for our donation. So here's my replacement for the spam.
We plan to donate through our church. Thank you for your generous heart.
As I go through the blogosphere today, I amazed at the generous and concerned people I find. Praise the Lord!
Our family is sending up prayers to the One who can do the most!!
Our church also took and sent contributions in.
My heart breaks especially for the little ones affected. We truly are blessed and I am thankful that we are able to bless others in return!
I’m doing all the link-clickin I can, and we will be donating, too. Thanks for what you are doing to help–every little bit helps!
Glad to see so many helping out!
Thank you for doing this!
I don't have a blog but wanted to comment. We've donated, and I've spent several hours hitting all the blogs like yours. What a wonderful thing you're doing!
Due to our financial situation, I am visiting as many blogs as possible and commenting to help raise donations. Bless you for not only helping but providing a way for everyone to help too!
Sending out my donation to Samaritan's Purse, Worldvision is also a wonderful organization. We don't ever appreciate all of the blessings we have until we see the devastation of others. Thank you Shawna for you generosity, and for inspiring others to help as well.
I donated all my swagbucks for the cause, posted about this drive on Facebook, and plan to donate money, though still deciding which organization to donate through. Thanks for doing this.
We gave to Red Cross via txt and YeleHaiti via txt. Thanks for your efforts!
I hope people continue to donate long past the initial shock. This is something that's going to be around for a while…
Oh, hey, this is cool since you were talking about website charity. Did you ever decide how to set up a site where people can actually donate?
My husband is a Haitian American, and we are devastated by this disaster.
I appreicate all you do and keeping people in Haiti in your prayers. We donated to Red Cross and Direct Relief International. We are also planning on donating to other organizations as well. Again, thank you for your help.
I decided to donate to 'Doctors without Borders.' Thanks for all you are doing!!
My family donated to Samaritan's Purse and Compassion International.
We donated to Chances for Children, a ministry that runs an orphanage outside Port au Prince:

A family from our homeschool group recently adopted two precious children from there. Bless you for all you are doing to help.
I'm giving to the Red Cross and the LDS Church. Thanks for doing this!
We donated to Catholic Relief Services which goes directly to Haiti, and my 6 year old son wants to donate the charity portion of his allowance to Haiti. God bless you, you're doing a great thing!
Thank you- we are praying and have given to CrossWorld
Thank you for doing this, I am proud to be friends with you. We gave to to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund via text, and I donated all of my Swagbucks.
What a wonderful thing you are doing. I pray for all of those in Haiti.
SwagGrabber posted a deal about a $40 subscription for 40 issues of All You the other day, just wanted to share. Only $1 per issue but then $10 of that $40 goes to Haitian Relief, which makes it even less and helps a good cause.

I donated swagbucks. Thanks for donating to the cause!
I donated to Samaritan's Purse. Thank you for doing this.
